New Women's and Children's Hospital Taskforce
New Women's and Children's Hospital
In April 2018, the South Australian Government established a Taskforce to develop a fully costed plan and recommended location for the new Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH). The objectives of the new Women's and Children's Hospital Taskforce were to undertake state-wide service planning with a view to determine the services to be provided at the new WCH, ascertain the size of the facility, conduct site analysis, identify the cost of the new WCH, and develop a project program with construction to be completed by 2024 or the earliest date thereafter.
The Taskforce has completed its objectives and produced a report and outline business case which will be presented to Government for consideration. The outline business case is the first step in the process of building the new Women's and Children's Hospital, and should it be approved by Government, a detailed business case will be produced in 2020. Further extensive consultation and engagement will be undertaken as part of this process.

Preferred site identified by Taskforce
The new Women’s and Children’s Hospital Taskforce has selected the western end of the biomedical Precinct as the preferred site for the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The Taskforce has spent the past eight months extensively consulting with clinicians, consumers and key stakeholders to put forward the best possible option for our new hospital. The Taskforce considered additional advice from architects GHD Woodhead and Health Planner Carramar, and determined that the site meets all agreed evaluation criteria.
Should the preliminary business case be approved by Government, a comprehensive business case will be developed in 2019. Extensive consultation and engagement will take place with staff, clinicians, consumers, community members and our key partners throughout the development of this comprehensive business case.
