The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.
The Women's and Children's Health Network is proud to support both White Ribbon Day and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, to raise awareness of the prevention of violence against women, children and families.
On 19 July 2017, WCHN White Ribbon Ambassador Phil Robinson hosted a special White Ribbon Night morning tea for staff as a way of keeping the conversation going about how, as a White Ribbon Workplace, WCHN can help to end violence against women.
The occasion also provided a forum for staff to learn about some of the support services available to employees and their families should they experience such violence.
Staff across the Health Network were also encouraged to host their own morning or afternoon teas throughout July, as fundraisers for White Ribbon and to further raise awareness of the issue of violence.
In June 2017, WCHN welcomed local artist and domestic violence survivor Angela Lisman to the Women's and Children's Hospital to deliver an address to staff about her experiences and to launch an exhibition of her art works.
