A new resource to assist consumers participate in their own health care or that of their families is available. The 10 tips for safer health care, produced by the Australian Council for Safety and Quality, is available in a variety of languages which can be downloaded from the web.
All families will be given a copy of the booklet on admission and posters and additional copies of the booklet for display in ward areas are available by contacting Manager, Consumer & Community Participation 8161 6835.
Many health professionals will work together with you to care for you or your child.
When specialist health care services are not available at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, such as paediatric cardiac surgery or liver transplants etc, arrangements are made for children and parent(s) to travel to other centres where they can receive the necessary medical care. In most cases the Women’s and Children’s Hospital provides follow up care and support and links to the resources and information available.
The South Australian Department of Health provides assistance with meeting the costs of travel and accommodation if you have to travel interstate, through the Patient Assisted Travel scheme.
