CAMHS, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is a free mental health service offered by the Women's and Children's Health Network that provides services for infants, children, and young people up to the age of 16 (and in some regions this extends to the age of 18) with moderate to severe and complex emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties, across South Australia.
CAMHS staff are located in community teams across metropolitan and country South Australia, in statewide services such as Consultation Liaison and Forensic Services and inpatient services at the Women's and Children's Hospital (Boylan Ward) and Glenside (Helen Mayo House).
CAMHS now has a centralised service for triaging all incoming community referrals, called CAMHS Connect.
CAMHS Connect is staffed by an experienced multidisciplinary team who assist consumers in determining whether CAMHS is the best fit for their mental health needs.
In providing a single centralised phone contact, CAMHS Connect aims to make the referral process easier, more streamlined and responsive to the needs of children, young people and their families.
CAMHS Connect can receive enquiries from young people, parents and carers, General Practitioners, Paediatricians, public sector and private providers, school staff, or any other person regarding referral into CAMHS.
CAMHS Connect will assist with making an appointment for a client at the most convenient CAMHS location, or whenever possible, recommend alternative supports.
Although the first point of contact for most enquiries, CAMHS Connect will not replace assertive strategies currently in place across CAMHS to connect with hard-to-reach, vulnerable populations.
You can call CAMHS Connect on 1300 222 647 (1300 2 CAMHS) to make a new referral between the hours of 9.00am–5.00pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
Please note that CAMHS Connect is a CAMHS referral triage service and we are unable to provide an emergency/crisis response.
In an emergency or if you need urgent assistance please call Triple Zero (000).
