Discipline of Paediatrics, University of Adelaide

The Discipline of Paediatrics, University of Adelaide has its facilities located entirely at the Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH). It has extensive collaborations with many departments at the hospital and the Child Health Research Institute. It also has extensive national and international collaborations.

The Discipline contributes to medical undergraduate teaching in all years of the University of Adelaide undergraduate teaching programs in medicine. In their 5th year, medical students attend the WCH for a nine week full time placement.

The Discipline has strong clinical, public health and basic science research programs undertaken by its own staff, and has a significant number of undergraduate and postgraduate research activities. Currently 40 PhD and three honours students work in a wide variety of departments and affiliated institutions within the WCH.

Significant research areas are in the disciplines of:

• allergy
• child and adolescent mental health
• diabetes and endocrinology
• gastroenterology
• immunology
• medical education
• paediatric surgery
• pulmonary medicine
• vaccine trials (VIRTU)

The clinical academic staff in the Discipline also provide a clinical service in most of these areas (see below how to access the service).
