Stomal TherapyThe Stomal Therapy service provides quality care to children with a range of needs such as:
Education, counselling and referral to appropriate community and/or hospital-based health professionals can be provided. The service acts as a clinical resource to many nursing and affiliated health professionals in South Australia, and has strong links with stomal therapy nurses around Australia. How to access the serviceAny child/family can contact the Stomal Therapy service for care or advice about stomas, urology care or wounds. A medical referral is not usually required. An appointment can be arranged by contacting the Stomal Therapy Office – phone (08) 8161 6671. If the need is urgent, page the Nurse via the WCH switchboard – phone (08) 8161 7000. These conditions may be present at birth, or develop later in life. The Stomal Therapy nurses work in close consultation with surgeons, medical practitioners, and many other health professionals to enhance the care provided to the child and their family. Other services include:
Resources/publicationsOur nurses are members of the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses and promote evidence-based practice. Links with other professional groups include: HoursService Hours are Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 4:00pm. For emergency care the WCH Paediatric Emergency Department is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
