Biomedical Engineering

What do we do?

The Biomedical Engineering Department is responsible for the repairs, maintenance, calibration and testing of clinical and laboratory equipment. We assist in the preparation and evaluation of equipment tenders, trialling of new equipment and overseeing of maintenance contracts for medical and laboratory equipment. We also assist in theatres when required, and provide technical assistance and advice to clinical staff on all equipment related matters. 

Other areas of responsibility are:

• investigation of equipment related incidents
• education of nursing & other staff in the safe and effective use of clinical equipment
• design and/or modification of equipment to suit individual needs
