At the workplace
Our volunteers make a significant contribution to the work of the Women’s and Children’s Health Network, and are highly valued by staff, consumers and families.
Generally, our volunteers are engaged between 8am–4.00pm, Monday to Friday.
All volunteers have an appointed workplace supervisor and are supported by the Volunteer Unit.
We ensure all our volunteer roles complement the work of paid staff and do not replace paid labour.
Who can volunteer?
To volunteer with us you must be over 18 years of age and committed to providing a high level of service to our clients, families and staff.
As a volunteer, you will need to commit to:
- approximately one 4 hour shift per week;
- volunteering for at least 6 months; and
- taking part in training.
Your skills, experience and abilities are matched with roles we have available. Although we make every effort to consider your preferences we ask you to be flexible with your placement.

National Volunteers Week 2018
To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2018 the WCHN held a celebration morning tea inclusive of all volunteers from all organisations that contribute to the Women’s and Children’s Health Network. These organisations include Delta Therapy Dogs, Miracle Babies Foundation, Heartfelt Photographers, Starlight Foundation, Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation, The Friends of The Women’s and Children’s Hospital Incorporated and the WCHN Volunteers.
Volunteers play an integral role in delivering person and family centred care and are considered a critical part of our life and work at the Women’s and Children’s Health Network. Volunteering has this universal ability to create a meaningful connection between the organisation and the community.
The contribution of volunteers is very impressive. The combined number of volunteers is 852 volunteers and combined effort is effort of a total of 48,996 hours in a year! This has a calculated value of $2,024,024.76!
